Ms. Katie S.

I am allergic to cats and dogs, but I can take medication for it beforehand! Please make sure you’ve let Seminole Sitters know that you have pets so we have that information in your family’s file.

Birthday: January 13th

Favorite Crayola color: Pink Sherbert

Background: I am a current student at Florida State University pursuing a bachelor's in Elementary Education and a master's in Curriculum/Instruction. Choosing the career to teach was a calling for me, and being able to babysit is such a privilege. I worked at a summer camp and after-school program for over a year, and as a kid growing up, I volunteered for my local church's VBS and sports camps. I have cared for a few autistic children in group settings. I take pride in the fact that I know how to make kids smile and believe in themselves, and I also have a patience for them, I hope I can do the same for your family!

She’s cared for children as young as: 3 years old

Future plans: I hope to work in the schools as long as I can, and even become a principal one day. I also hope to have a family of my own, and travel!

When she's not babysitting: I love to hang out with my friends, watch baseball, read, and go the gym.

Defining Quote: I can’t remember who said it, but I once heard someone say they are “overwhelmed with gratitude”. It has stuck with me my entire life, and if I were to be asked to describe my life in a few words, those would be it.

Katie cared for my son for three days a week for an entire summer when he was 5 years old. She also babysat my neighbor’s 7-year-old twins.
Katie’s patience and creativity are limitless. The projects and activities she would prepare for the kids she was sitting for were always so filled with thought and care. She is exceptional!

Katie was always very engaged when watching my children. She was active in various role playing games, board games and arts and crafts. She always made sure the children were playing fair and encouraged them to take turns picking the next activity. If the children were playing independently, Katie used the time to see if there was any other housework that she could assist with (loading the dishwasher, wiping off counters, etc). At the end of the day, she made sure the children helped clean up any toys/games that had been taken out and put away. My children were always happy to see Katie arrive and I always felt she was just excited to see them.

Katie’s face lights up when she works with or talks about kids. She instinctively knows how to communicate with children. You can see she cares. Babysitting will help Katie continue to grow as a future educator and allow her to experience different personalities and ages of children.

Katie is very trustworthy. I trust her values. She works well with the children and uses good judgment about how to handle circumstances. She is creative with games and activities to keep the children engaged. She is structured and routine-based while also being empathetic with high expectations.
